Ridge Hill was created by Forest City Ratner Companies. Forest City Ratner Companies is one of the developers that develop real estate in urban New York. In 2000, the Yorker Industrial Development Agency wanted to develop a mall. The company wanted the mall to develop jobs for the area. Before Ridge Hill was built, the land had a rehab center, hospital, and a church. Due to a lack of jobs, the lease that Yonkers Industrial Development Agency had was eliminated. As a result of its elimination, the company purchased the rest of the lease contract.
It leads to bids from developers wanting to create a mall for the area. Ridge Hill ended up emerging as the winner of the lease contract. In 2007, construction broke ground on the creation of Ridge Hill. At the time, Whole Food Markets, L.L. Bean, and Saks Fifth Avenue showed interest in adding locations in Ridge Hill.
Originally, Ridge Hill was supposed to be completed in 2009. However, it was pushed back due to the turbulent economy. One year later, Dick’s Sporting Good, REI, and Brio Tuscan announced were among the companies that will join Ridge Hill as they open. At the same time of this announcement, Saks Fifth Avenue decided against including their store at Ridge Hill. In 2011, Ridge Hill opened.

They include models of local landmarks from around the world. These landmarks are made out of LEGO bricks. Children can participate in building classes by a Master Model Builder. In the classes, children can learn how to build specific LEGO structures and models. Shoppers can also shop at the LEGO gift shop.
